ASPCA's Adopt a Senior Pet

Here at New Hope Animal Hospital, we would like you to join in the ASPA’s effort to adopt a senior pet. Senior pets make wonderful additions to all families, and they offer certain benefits. Some are already trained. They are not as rambunctious as puppies and kittens, and they require less care.

Reasons to Adopt a Senior Pet

Older pets are calmer than their younger counterparts. They are less prone to darting around your house and jumping on your family members and guests. They do not need potty trained, and senior pets are full grown will their full coats of hair, which means no size or grooming surprises.

Since senior pets are older, wiser and calmer, they make themselves at home relatively quickly, and they are super loving and ready to bond with their new human owners. They also make great pets for adults and senior citizens. Puppies, kittens and young dogs and cats often pose a decades-long responsibility as most breeds live between 10 and 20 years. In contrast, senior pets are nearing the ends of their lives and may only live another three to five years. Senior pets are also ready to become your couch-potato pet because they require very little exercise. For dogs, taking them on short walks and letting them out in the backyard to do their business is sufficient exercise. Older cats will exercise themselves or only desire a few minutes of playtime each day.
