Spring Activities for Your Pets


Everyone loves spring – even your pets. Spring is a great time of year to get out and enjoy warm, sunny weather. This spring, find new ways to help your pet stay active and enjoy the season. Most spring activities for your pets are free or low-cost, fun, and help build a strong bond between you and your cat or dog.

Spring Activities for Your Dog

Go for a walk with your dog. Now that the snow banks of melted enough for you to walk safely on sidewalks, take your dog for a long walk around the neighborhood. Use a long lead, if possible, to allow your dog a little room to explore.

Take your pooch to the dog park. Pups love dog parks because they offer plenty of room to run. Dog parks also offer a great opportunity for your dog to socialize after a long winter cooped up in the house.

Spring Activities for Your Cat

Outdoor cats love spring weather and will seize the opportunity to check out the neighborhood. Be sure your cat has a collar, microchip, and is up to date on all his vaccinations.

Indoor cats love spring too, but will need a little help to embrace the season. Open a window to give your indoor cat a breath of fresh air and a chance to listen to the birds singing. Be sure to secure screens and clean the sill of any paint chips, bugs or debris.

Install a catio for your favorite feline friend. A catio is a screened enclosure that allows indoor cats to experience all the pleasures of the great outdoors without all the risks.

Bring home a big paper bag filled with cat toys – be sure to keep the bag, as it will likely end up as your cat’s favorite toy. Choose toys that encourage physical activity to help your cat burn off some of the excess weight she may have gained over the winter.

Spring is an excellent time to engaging in new activities with your pets.
